Kobbie Mainoo: Ruben Amorim accused of ‘ruining’ Man Utd wonderkid by Paul Scholes

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is being ‘ruined’ by manager Ruben Amorim, according to Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes.

Mainoo has struggled to find game time under the Portuguese and was an unused substitute in the 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham United on Thursday.

The 20-year-old England international pushed to leave on loan in the summer and has played only 171 minutes of Premier League football this season, leaving some fans questioning Amorim’s team selection.

Ruben Amorim on Kobbie Mainoo: A starter like the other players

Speaking last Friday, the Man Utd boss was asked about his stance on Mainoo.

He replied: “I consider him a starter just like the other players. I just have to make a choice and then in the end, it’s not been Kobbie.

“In the future, I don’t know. Again, I always think the same thing with Casemiro. He was not playing and then he plays. I just want to win games. I don’t care who is playing.”

Amorim reiterated his stance following the West Ham draw.

“You talk a lot of about Kobbie,” he said. “I have more players in my squad who want to be in the World Cup, so it’s a little bit unfair.

“I put Kobbie in on Monday against Everton because he’s really good near the box, to have a guy like Bruno and him, they can find spaces near the box and score goals. So that was my idea. So, I will use Kobbie and the rest of them to try for the team to win. So, I’m not just focused on one individual.”

What did Scholes say about Amorim and Mainoo?

Scholes has clearly had enough of Amorim’s stance on Mainoo, though.

Taking to Instagram, the Man Utd legend hit out: “Bulls***. The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football. Hate seeing home grown players leave but it’s probably best for him now, enough is enough.”

Despite the criticism, Amorim has shown that his skin is bulletproof but he is unlikely to change his stance over Mainoo because of noise away from the club.
